DESIGN & COLOR TIPS
Colors
affect us physically, emotionally, and mentally, so
choose colors that will fit with the purpose you want to
convey.
Color can
add character, create a mood, and influence our
thoughts, so careful color choice is a wise and
important design step.

-
Show off those architectural details! Paint crown
moldings and baseboard trim a lighter or darker color
than the walls.
-
If
you have an open floor plan, or a room visible from
another room, consider painting all the trim—around
windows, baseboards, and crown moldings—the same color
throughout all the adjoining spaces. This will bring a
cohesive, pulled together look to all the visible
rooms in your space.
-
Good design is flexible in function and does two or
more things at the same time. Two padded storage
ottomans pulled together make a great coffee table,
can be used for extra seating, and will store pillows,
a throw, or toys.
-
Hanging a mirror opposite a window not only reflects
light and the outdoors, but also makes the whole space
seem bigger. Having an
Interior Refinement™
performed by a qualified specialist can help you pull
together the hidden great design in your space.
-
Consider painting the walls of a visible connecting
room the same color as the room it’s connected to, but
1 to 2 shades lighter or darker. This will make each
room feel different yet have a visual flow.
-
Downplay small dark rooms by painting walls shades of
white, pastel yellow or blue, which will give an
instant airy look and feel. If you’re
not sure what paint color to choose, be sure to call
Color My Space for a
Color Refinement™
before you start. This will save you time and money by
not repainting a room several times.
